Another alternative is to give some products up entirely - there are people who claim it's possible to completely give up shampoo by washing their hair in baking soda.
The belief is that eventually your hair will adapt and stop producing as much oil. I know a few people who have tried it, but no one who's had success long term.
Zero-waste people also repair as much as possible and never replace something that isn't broken. They never upgrade a phone or device just because it's old or there's a newer, fancier version on the market.
Even when something breaks, they'll try very hard to get it repaired before buying a new one, and when they can't repair it, they'll often try to buy a used or second hand replacement.
